ANGOLA — A tragic incident occurred at Lake Erie Beach Park on Friday, resulting in the death of 15-year-old Sky Hahn of Forestville. The Evans Police Department is investigating the drowning, which happened in challenging water conditions.

According to authorities, emergency responders were called at 3:31 p.m. after the boy went underwater and did not resurface. Park lifeguards quickly spotted him and retrieved him from the water, initiating life-saving efforts. Despite their swift response and subsequent medical treatment by emergency personnel, Sky Hahn was transported to Mercy Hospital in Buffalo, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The loss has deeply affected the Forestville community. Forestville Central School shared a heartfelt message on Facebook, expressing their sorrow over Sky Hahn’s passing. Superintendent John O’Connor described Sky as a valued member of the school community and asked for prayers and support for his family during this difficult time.

Town of Evans Police praised the efforts of the lifeguards and emergency responders for their professionalism. Authorities have encouraged community members to seek counseling services offered by Lake Shore Central and Forestville Central Schools to cope with the tragedy.

In response to the incident, Forestville schools announced they would be open Monday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. to provide a space for community mourning. Grief counselors and clergy will be available to offer support, emphasizing the importance of compassion and unity during this painful time.
